Basement waterproofing has to work against water pressure, not just against water. That is a different engineering problem from a terrace, and a surface coating applied from the dry side will be pushed off it unless the system is designed for negative-side application.

How we choose between them

Where the outside face can be reached during construction, positive-side treatment is always the better answer. On an existing basement it cannot be, so we combine a negative-side system with pressure grouting at the joints and penetrations where water is actually entering.
