Waterproofing Primers

A primer is the least visible and most frequently skipped part of a waterproofing system. Its job is to seal a porous substrate so the membrane above it cures properly instead of having its liquid sucked away, and to give that membrane something to grip.

Leakproofs by Betterwork specifies and applies materials from this range across residential, commercial and industrial projects. Which one is right for your building depends on what the deep-scan inspection finds — the defect, the substrate and how much the structure moves — not on which product is best known.

Where it is used

Applied to RCC slabs, screeds, plaster and masonry immediately before a liquid membrane or coating system goes on.

How we choose between them

The primer is dictated by the membrane above it and the porosity below it — the manufacturer’s system specifies which pairs, and mixing a primer from one system with a membrane from another voids the compatibility that makes the system work. Where a surface is very porous, two primer coats are cheaper than a failed membrane.
