Waterproofing Warranty — What Our 10-Year Cover Includes
Written cover on the treated area, issued after the work is water-tested in front of you.
- Free site inspection
- Written estimate
- Warranty-backed work
Leakproofs by Betterwork advertises a 10-year warranty on every page of this site, so this page states plainly what that means, what it does not mean, and how it is issued. If a contractor cannot put the same detail in writing before you approve the estimate, treat the promise as marketing rather than cover.
What is covered
Eligible projects completed by Leakproofs by Betterwork carry a written ten-year warranty on the treated area. What it covers is water ingress through that treated area arising from failure of the applied system, for the stated term, subject to the exclusions disclosed on your estimate.
Two words in that sentence do the work. Treated area means the warranty follows the scope you actually bought — if we waterproofed the terrace, the warranty is on the terrace, not on a bathroom nobody inspected. Failure of the applied system means the cover is against the system not performing as specified, which is the risk you are actually asking us to carry.
The kind of warranty this is
There are two different documents in this industry and they are routinely confused.
- A manufacturer warranty covers the product. It is issued by the material brand and it responds when the material itself is defective.
- An applicator warranty covers the workmanship. It is issued by the contractor who applied it and it responds when the installation is at fault.
Ours is an applicator warranty. That is deliberate, and it is the one that matters more, because the large majority of waterproofing failures are workmanship failures rather than product failures — poor surface preparation, insufficient film thickness, untreated junctions and outlets. Where the specified material also carries manufacturer backing, you should hold both; ask us for the product documentation and we will supply it.
Exclusions
Every honest warranty has exclusions. Ours are stated on the estimate before you approve it, rather than produced at claim stage. The following are the standard ones, and we think they are fair:
- Structural movement beyond the system’s rated capability. A coating rated to bridge a 2 mm crack cannot be blamed for a 10 mm settlement crack.
- Third-party breach. A subsequent contractor drilling through the membrane to mount a railing, an antenna or a solar frame.
- Change of use. Adding a water tank, a planter box or heavy foot traffic to a surface that was specified for none of those.
- Lack of maintenance. Blocked rainwater outlets causing ponding is the classic example, and it is genuinely the owner’s responsibility.
- Ingress from an untreated area. Water reaching your ceiling from a neighbour’s untreated bathroom is not a failure of your terrace.
If an exclusion on your estimate is not on this list, ask us why it is there before you sign.
How the warranty is issued
The certificate is not handed over on trust. Treated areas are flood-tested or water-tested in front of you and signed off before the warranty document is issued — so the cover begins from a demonstrated result rather than an assumption. You receive the certificate as part of handover, along with the record of what was applied.
Keep the records that make a claim simple
Claims are settled quickly when the paperwork exists and slowly when it does not. Keep the estimate with its stated scope and exclusions, the warranty certificate, the product documentation for the materials applied, and the handover water-test record. For a housing society, keep them with the committee records rather than with the individual who happened to sign — committees change and documents get lost with them.
Our full credentials, safety and documentation position, including the sample warranty certificate we supply for vendor empanelment, is set out on our credentials and compliance page.
Before you sign — with any contractor
Two clauses are worth settling in writing at quotation stage rather than assuming:
- Transferability. A warranty transfers to a new owner only if the document says so. If you may sell the property inside the term, negotiate this before you sign — it is a straightforward thing to agree in advance and an impossible one to argue afterwards.
- Remediation scope. Establish whether a covered claim is repaired locally or whether the failed section is redone, and what happens to the remaining warranty term after a partial claim.

Frequently asked questions
What does the 10-year warranty actually cover?
Water ingress through the treated area arising from failure of the applied system, for the stated term, subject to the exclusions disclosed on your estimate.
Is every job covered for ten years?
The ten-year term applies to eligible completed projects. Eligibility depends on the system specified and the condition of the substrate — a repair to a structure we have advised needs replacement is not the same product as a full specified treatment. The term that applies to your job is stated on your estimate before you approve it.
Do I get a physical warranty certificate?
Yes — a written certificate issued at handover, after the treated area has been water-tested and signed off.
Does the warranty transfer if I sell the property?
Only if the document says so. Raise it at quotation stage and Leakproofs by Betterwork will confirm the position in writing.
Do commercial and industrial projects carry the same cover?
Commercial, industrial and housing-society projects are quoted with the warranty term and exclusions stated on the estimate in the same way. For tenders and vendor empanelment we supply the sample certificate and supporting documentation up front — see compliance.
