Bonding Agents

A bonding agent is what stops new concrete, mortar or plaster from separating from the old surface it is placed against. Without one, a repair patch is held on by friction and will eventually drum, crack at the edges and fall away — usually within two or three seasons.

Where it is used

How we choose between them

SBR-based agents are the general-purpose choice and double as a mortar modifier. Where the repair is thin, or the substrate is very smooth, a dedicated multipurpose or single-component agent gives more reliable adhesion. The deciding factor is usually how long the surface will be left open before the new material goes on.
