A sealant is what goes into a joint that is expected to move. Unlike a filler, it stays permanently flexible, which is exactly what an expansion joint, a window perimeter or a wall-to-frame junction needs.

Which one is right for your building depends on what the deep-scan inspection finds — the defect, the substrate and how much the structure moves — not on which product is best known.

Where it is used

Expansion and movement joints in slabs and walls, window and door perimeters, glazing and aluminium junctions, sanitary fittings, and any gap that will open and close with temperature.

How we choose between them

Polyurethane for structural movement joints where the sealant will be walked on or exposed to weather; silicone for glass, aluminium and sanitary junctions where adhesion to non-porous surfaces matters; acrylic for interior cracks that will be painted over. Using silicone where the joint needs to be painted is the most common mistake — nothing will stick to it afterwards.
