Tile Adhesives & Grouts

Tiling is part of the waterproofing envelope, not a finish applied over it. A tile bedded on sand-cement in a wet area, with cementitious grout in the joints, will let water through the joints into the bed — which is why so many “waterproofed” bathrooms still leak.

Where it is used

How we choose between them

The adhesive is chosen for the tile and the substrate; the grout is chosen for the exposure. In a shower or a pool, epoxy grout is worth the extra cost and the extra care during installation because cementitious grout is porous and will pass water into the bed. Outside wet areas, a good cementitious grout is perfectly adequate.
