Dr. Fixit Dampguard

Dr. Fixit Dampguard is an interior damp-proof coating for walls showing damp from the far side. It is a mitigation rather than a cure, and we say so before quoting it — the water is still arriving, and the source has to be dealt with separately.

Leakproofs by Betterwork specifies and applies Dr. Fixit Dampguard as part of a complete waterproofing system. A material on its own does not stop a leak — what stops it is the right material chosen for the right defect, on a surface that has been properly prepared. That is why we deep-scan before we specify.

Where Dr. Fixit Dampguard is used

This product is specified for damp walls, walls.

• Internal faces of external walls showing damp patches
• Walls shared with a neighbouring property that cannot be accessed
• Interior surfaces after the external source has been treated
• Rooms where damp is causing paint failure and fungal growth

Suitable substrates: Plaster, Masonry.

How it is applied

Applied by brush or roller to a wall that has been allowed to dry as far as it will, after loose and salt-contaminated plaster has been removed. Applying it over actively wet, salt-laden plaster traps the moisture and the coating is pushed off from behind within a season.

Preparation is the part that decides whether the system lasts. Loose material and failed old coatings are removed, cracks are cut and filled, and the surface is cleaned and brought to the moisture condition the product requires before anything is applied. Skipping that stage is the single most common reason waterproofing fails in its first season, whichever brand is on the tin.
